Carlisle Borough spans just over 5 sq. miles, making it a very walkable downtown. However, multiple sidewalks, especially those on the side streets, are uneven and dangerous. Moreso, those same side streets lack adequate lighting making said sidewalks more of a danger at night. If the sidewalks are too dangerous to walk on, and the streets too dark to see, people are less likely to venture outside of High and Hanover Streets, thus missing out on countless shops and restaurants, as well as free street parking.
